Chelsea FC 6 - 0 NK Maribor
[Remy 13', Drogba (p) 23', Terry 31', Viler (og) 54', Hazard (p) 77'/90']

Chelsea held no punches in their first ever match against the Slovenian champions. Loic Remy opened the scoring only to aggravate an injury he picked up minutes before and had to be subbed off for Didier Drogba. A somewhat harsh penalty was awarded to Chelsea for a handball and Drogba stepped up, after a chat with regular penalty taker Hazard, and slotted the ball home to double the lead. It was almost identical to that penalty in Munich. Coming from defending a corner, John Terry was seen galloping down the pitch, spearheading a counter attack and was able to slide home the third goal. After the break the Blues showed no sign of slowing down and after some trickery in the box, Hazard pinged the ball towards the goal and in an effort to clear the ball, it deflected off Viler’s heel and into his own net. 20 minutes later Chelsea earned another penalty with Ivanovic going down under some pressure, this time Hazard did step up to take the penalty and doing as he does, slid the ball coolly past the ‘keeper. Despite the match winding down to a close, Nathan Ake played a wonderfully flighted ball from deep in his own half to Hazard who was making a run towards the Maribor goal. Hazard took it down with perfection and with some individual magic made his way to goal and curled the ball around the keeper. Despite the incredibly assured performance from the Blues it was wonderful to see them play the last 20 minutes with three teenagers on the pitch; the two 19 years olds, starter Kurt Zouma, and midfielder Nathan Ake (who was introduced in the second half), along with debutant and bright star 17 year old Dominic Solanke making his first team and European debut. All in all it was one of the most controlled, and elegant performances Chelsea have displayed all season. The London team now sit top of Group G and hopefully that’s where they’ll stay.

"Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite was known as Ricardinho, which means “Little Richard”, for the earliest years of his life. But when his younger brother, Digão, began learning to speak, he couldn’t pronounce his brother’s name. Kaká was the best he could do, and the name stuck" - Toward the Goal, The Kaká Story
